Recently, Prophet Mulindwa Jules, the visionary and spiritual leader of the City of Refuge Church, addressed a controversial topic among believers, the use of the cross.
In many religions, such as the Catholic Church, members wear small crosses with the image of Jesus as a sign of salvation. However, many Pentecostal churches have also adopted the practice of placing crosses on their temples, similar to the Catholic Church.
With his revolutionary message, Prophet Mulindwa Jules revealed that this practice is unbiblical and purely human, rather than divine.
He described the practice as idolatry, explaining that there is no verse in the Bible that instructs believers to place crosses on their temples.
“Wherever you see a cross, know that it is an idol or a forged image. There is no verse that asks believers to worship the cross or to place it on a building as a sign of God’s presence,” he insisted during his preaching.
According to him, the cross is actually a symbol of curse, because even the Bible says, “Cursed is anyone who is hung on a cross.”
To clarify his point, he explained that Christ accepted to die on the cross in order to redeem His people and save them from malediction:
“Christ accepted to become a curse so that you and I, His children, may be blessed.”
To make it even clearer, he asked a challenging question:
“When Christ died, did He carry a cross after His resurrection? Or did His disciples do so?”
With a voice full of regret but compassion, he continued:
“So, where did you get this practice of identifying yourselves with a cross?”
After a brief pause, he added: “You always claim that you are built on the foundation of Christ and His disciples. Yet there is no disciple or prophet in the Bible who carried a cross. Even Christ Himself never carried a cross during His ministry on earth. Who taught you to carry the cross?”
The spiritual leader of the City of Refuge Church went on to explain that this practice was introduced by people who claim to be sent by God, but whose mission is in fact demonic, aiming to harm humanity.
He said that by dying on the cross, Christ took upon Himself all human sins, curses, and accusations. Then, according to him, the enemies of salvation took the very cross that contained all those curses and made people wear it, symbolically giving them back what Christ had already freed them from.
“Many people are suffering today because they took back what Christ had already delivered them from,” he said.
In the City of Refuge Church, believers honor the work done on the cross, but not the cross itself. For them, carrying or wearing the cross is a form of idolatry and a sign of curse. Instead of identifying themselves by the cross, they focus on worshiping the One who redeemed them by dying on it.
