Congolese politician and entrepreneur Seth Kikuni was reportedly arrested upon arrival at N’Djili International Airport in Kinshasa this October 18, 2025 after spending several days in Nairobi, Kenya, where he took part in an opposition conclave organized by former president Joseph Kabila.
According to opposition figure André Claudel Lubaya, who raised the alarm, Seth Kikuni arrived in Kinshasa on Kenya Airways from Nairobi early Saturday, October 18.
Shortly after landing, his passport was allegedly confiscated by the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) before he was taken away by agents from the National Intelligence Agency (ANR) and DEMIAP, the military intelligence service.
“He was taken to an unknown destination,” said Claudel Lubaya, expressing concern over the disappearance that has left the opposition in dismay.
Disappearance Raises Concerns
Sources close to Kikuni confirmed that his relatives and collaborators, who had gone to welcome him at the airport, lost all contact with him following the arrest. His phone line has also been unreachable since the incident.
Although authorities have not yet issued an official statement, several sources claim that the arrest is linked to Kikuni’s participation in the Nairobi conclave, which led to the creation of a new opposition platform known as “Sauvons la RDC” (“Save the DRC”).
A Known Opponent of the Regime
Seth Kikuni, a young entrepreneur and political leader, has been a two-time presidential candidate in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He is widely known for his critical stance against President Félix Tshisekedi’s government, often denouncing issues of poor governance and lack of democratic space.
As of now, neither the DGM, ANR, nor DEMIAP has made any public comment regarding his arrest.
However, several political figures and civil society leaders are calling for clarity and transparency on the situation.
