Prophet Dr. Mulindwa Jules, founder and spiritual leader of City of Refuge Church, has declared 2027 the Year of Light, unveiling the prophecy during a special Sunday service held on November 1, 2026.
The announcement, which had been eagerly anticipated by many believers, was received with excitement and jubilation. The congregation responded with dancing, praise and worship as the prophet delivered the message he said he had received from God.
To support the prophetic declaration, Prophet Mulindwa Jules referred to two biblical passages: Isaiah 9:2 and Luke 1:78–79, both of which speak about light breaking through darkness.
Isaiah 9:2 reads: “The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.”
Similarly, Luke 1:78–79 states: “Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace.”
From Darkness to Light: The Message Behind the Prophecy
During his sermon, Prophet Mulindwa Jules explained that many people had spent years living under what he described as spiritual darkness. According to him, this darkness had prevented individuals from progressing in different areas of their lives, despite their efforts.
He particularly highlighted the struggles of people who had attempted to establish businesses or undertake different projects but had repeatedly encountered difficulties and setbacks.
The prophet also extended his message to the Democratic Republic of Congo, questioning why a country endowed with abundant natural resources continues to face challenges in achieving widespread prosperity and lasting peace.
He attributed these difficulties to the spiritual darkness he spoke about during the sermon, declaring that the season of darkness was coming to an end.
According to his message, the Year of Light represents a new season in which individuals, families and the country as a whole can experience progress, prosperity and a brighter future.
Why Does City of Refuge Church Begin Its New Spiritual Year in November?
Unlike the conventional calendar year, which begins in January, City of Refuge Church observes the beginning of its new spiritual year every November. This practice is part of a tradition established by Prophet Mulindwa Jules.
Explaining the reasoning behind this tradition, the prophet has repeatedly raised concerns about what he considers increased demonic activity during November, particularly in connection with religious practices dedicated to the dead.
He has warned believers against rituals involving prayers for departed souls and attempts to communicate with the dead, which he considers spiritually dangerous and contrary to God’s Word.
According to his teachings, beginning a new spiritual year in November allows believers to enter a new season under God’s guidance rather than waiting for the end of December, when the civil calendar year concludes.
The period also provides an opportunity for the prophet to announce the prophecy and spiritual direction for the coming year.
A Woman Shares an Emotional Testimony During the Service

The Sunday service also featured an emotional testimony from a woman in her thirties, who described what she considered a remarkable spiritual experience following the announcement of the Year of Light.
According to her account, she had been experiencing several difficulties within her family before attending City of Refuge Church. She explained that she had previously sought help at another church but had not found the assistance she was looking for.
However, during the prophetic announcement, she said she suddenly saw an intense light and could no longer see anything else, including the people around her.
The experience caused her to fall to the ground. Assuming that she might have been experiencing demonic possession, some deacons carried her away for deliverance.
However, after a few minutes, she regained her composure and reportedly told the deacons that she was not possessed by any demons.
Later, as she shared her testimony with the congregation, she became visibly emotional, speaking through tears about her experience. Her account drew the attention of the congregation and further stirred emotions among believers present at the service.
The declaration of 2027 as the Year of Light was not limited to Kinshasa. Similar announcements were held in other locations where City of Refuge Church operates, including Brazzaville, Uganda and Burundi, among several other countries.
Through these simultaneous gatherings, members of the church across different countries received the same prophetic message for the coming year. For City of Refuge Church, the announcement marks the beginning of a new spiritual season, with 2027 officially designated as the Year of Light.
